What is an each way bet?

By making a bet each why it is split into two seperate bets. A win and a place bet. Your selection must win or finish first in the event for you to win this bet. For the place part of the bet to win your selection must result in a pre-determined outcome. The odds for a each way bet are normally a fraction of that for the win bet. Normally a half, third, quarter or fith (1/2, 1/3, 1/4, or 1/5). The bookmaker will normally quote the place terms.

Multiple bets like a double, trixie, scoop, or any of the others can also be placed each way.

An each way bet examples

£10 bet on a football team. As an each way bet is two separate bets this would mean £10 to win and £10 for a placed result. You expect them to win the tournament, but are not sure so decide to reduce the risk by going each way. The win odds are 12/1. The place odds are 4/1 (a third of the win odds).

If the team wins your return would be £130 (thats the profit of £120 plus the original stake of £10).

Say the team loses in the final or comes third then the place bet would pay out. You would receive £10 x 4 (4/1 odds) plus your original stake; £40 + £10.

Bet365 specialises in football betting offering some of the best promotions around. You can often find large bonuses for placing english premier league multiple bets. We would recommend getting started with a football free bet .

When should you each way bet?

You would only want to 'hedge your bets' by going each way if the odds are high enough to give you a profit if the selection finishes in one of the placed positions.

Choose your multiple bet

How should you choose which multiple bet to take. This depends on the event and the reliability of the information you are using. The more selections you choose the higher the return will be, but the lower the chance of getting the result you want. If you are slightly unsure of a selection you've found you can always go each way to increase the chances that it will pay off and roll over to your next selection.
